Your Guide to Wedding Insurance

Finding anyone to spend your life with is no easy feat, and having a wedding to celebrate is fitting. Unfortunately, while you’ll want everything to go off without a hitch on your big day, weddings rarely go as planned.

From losing your engagement ring to bad weather disrupting your ceremony, there are plenty of potential disasters that could ruin your wedding day. Luckily, wedding insurance can help protect you from some of the financial fallout if something does go wrong.

Here’s a helpful guide on getting wedding insurance.

What Does Wedding Insurance Cover?

Wedding insurance policies typically fall into two broad categories: property damage and personal liability.

Property damage coverage usually includes protection for things like lost or damaged wedding rings, gifts, attire, and photographs. This can be helpful if, for example, your engagement ring is lost or stolen, or if bad weather ruins your wedding photos.

Personal liability coverage protects you from things like accidents and injuries that occur during your wedding. This can come in handy if someone trips and falls on a flower arrangement and is injured for instance.

How Do You Get Wedding Insurance?

If you’re interested in getting wedding insurance, the first step is to contact your insurance company or agent to see if they offer Wedding Protector Plans. These are typically special event insurance policies that can be customized to fit your specific needs.

If your insurer does not offer Wedding Protector Plans, you may still be able to purchase a standard event insurance policy that will cover your wedding. However, these policies are not always as comprehensive as Wedding Protector Plans, so be sure to read the fine print carefully before buying.

You can also purchase wedding insurance from a variety of independent insurers. A quick search online will reveal several different options. Again, read any policies thoroughly.

How Do You Make a Claim on Your Wedding Insurance Policy?

If you need to make a claim on your wedding insurance policy, the first step is to contact your insurer and let them know what happened. They will then ask you to fill out a claims form and provide any supporting documentation, such as receipts or police reports.

Once your claim is filed, your insurer will investigate and determine whether or not you are eligible for benefits. If they determine that you are eligible, they will issue a payment to cover your losses.

Still, it’s not uncommon for insurance companies to operate in bad faith. If your provider gives you the runaround or offers to cover significantly less than you believe you’re entitled to, it’s best to contact an insurance lawyer as soon as possible.

Wedding insurance can be a helpful way to protect yourself from financial losses if something goes wrong on your big day. But only if you choose wisely. Be sure to shop around and compare policies carefully before buying to make sure you’re getting the right coverage for your needs.
