How Design Can Add Beauty and Function to Your Home

The beauty of art is that it can be both beautiful and functional. This is exceedingly true in the case of interior design, where comfort and function blend together with art to create a beautiful home. Some design choices, however, go further than adding more storage or providing comfort; they can help you use energy more efficiently, meaning that you can reduce your utility bills while being just as comfortable no matter the season. These three design choices can help you achieve this goal, and can bring your interior design to the next level:

Beautiful Area Rugs

Natural flooring like hardwood is a beautiful feature to add to any home. It can bring uniformity and can instantly make any home more luxurious. The only downside to this hardwood, of course, is that it is cold to the touch in winter, and can leave a room feeling barren. To counter such cold and nakedness though, you can pick out and lay down a fashionable area rug that’s beautiful to both the eye and touch.

Choose a beautiful and ornate rug that matches the décor of your room, and your new area rug will become as much an art piece as the paintings on the wall. Hardwood or other natural surfaces are the perfect canvas to make any rug pop, and, in turn, these rugs can pull a room together, while making better use of your heating or cooling, depending on the time of the year.

What Curtains Can Do for You

Curtains have the ability to make most room look grand. They can dress a window and use the power of natural light to create a beautiful frame of light and shade. Add curtains that drop from ceiling to floor, and you can make any room look larger than it truly is; similarly, you can add sheer curtains to add extra privacy and thicker curtains to keep the hot or cold air out.

Curtains do much more than dress a window, though. They can block out the sun’s harsh rays, reducing your usage of the AC, or they can keep the keep in, keeping you from upping the heating. Combined, curtains offer a dual function of design and in aiding you lower your utility bill.

The Rebirth of the Ceiling Fan

Ceiling fans are so incredibly important in reducing your energy usage. They can be used to pull hot air up to cool your home down, and similarly they can push the otherwise wasted hot air back down, ensuring your home’s energy is used more efficiently during the winter months.

Fans today aren’t like your grandmother’s fans, either. There are many stunning designs that can bring function and beauty into each room seamlessly, with certain furniture brands introducing contemporary design and functionality as one. Fanimation is a good example of such a company, which crafts modern and restoration designs while harmonizing aesthetics with practicality; you can shop Fanimation products online, and turn your room into a fashionable abode from the ceiling down.

Combine design and functionality and you have an unstoppable force. Add these design choices into your home with the intent to provide both design and function, and you’ll end up with a gorgeous home and lesser bills.
