The Secrets to Success: How to Keep Your Employees Engaged and Motivated

As a manager, you can have enormous influence on your employees. If you build good relationships and develop trust with the staff at your company, they’ll listen to you more and be more open to following your advice.

Before you start expecting any impressive results on a company level, it’s important to take the time to guide each worker and turn them into the best version of themselves. Regardless how good of a manager you are, it’s no easy task keeping your employees engaged and motivated to do their job every day.

It’s even harder to keep them motivated to learn new skills and expand their knowledge. You can do all of this by demonstrating to your staff why they should have pride in what they do and showing them what the future holds for everyone at the company if they put in the work to take it to the next level. Read on to find out some of the best ways to keep your employees engaged and motivated.

What Is Employee Engagement?

Employee engagement is often mistaken for employee happiness. Nevertheless, they’re two completely different things. Think of it this way, employees may be very happy to be working for a certain company, but that doesn’t mean that they’re working hard or even care to elevate the business.

In essence, employee engagement is characterised as the emotional commitment the staff has for the company and its goals. It’s about passion and how much they care about the organisation they work for. However, you can’t expect employees to develop this type of emotional commitment by themselves. This is where you need to step in as a manager.

Make sure that they clearly understand what the company envisions for the future and what both their small and big goals are. Show them how their work contributes to the success of the organisation and how they could help grow it by working hard and learning new skills. Find out a bit more on how to keep your workforce engaged in the next section of the article.

Effective Ways to Keep Your Workforce Engaged

Before you start trying different approaches to increase employee engagement, it’s important to check whether your team members are happy on the job. Ask whether they enjoy the work conditions and if they have any suggestions or requests.

Check if each employee has good equipment to do their job properly. After all, you can’t expect someone to be passionate about their work if they’re using a buggy computer. One way to boost employee satisfaction is to get new equipment for everyone. Some companies only hire desktop computers for employees to avoid the large upfront costs you’d have from buying.

With newer equipment, your staff will be happier and more open to listening to you. This is the perfect moment to start trying different strategies to boost employee engagement. Here are some of the things you should try.

Encourage Their Professional Development

As a manager, you should always encourage your staff to learn new skills and secure higher positions within the company. Demonstrate to them how they would help the organisation reach its goals by boosting their knowledge. Of course, you should also provide them with different learning opportunities, such as courses and training sessions.

Provide Regular Feedback

Employees value feedback because it allows them to see what they’re doing well and what they can improve. Regular feedback can improve performance, boost motivation, and help you form better relationships with people.

Reward Employees

Although it’s essential to get employees to understand company goals and how they can help achieve them, you can’t expect them to be fully engaged and motivated without providing them with some type of incentive for hard work. Rewarding employees for exceeding performance expectations is an important step to increasing employee engagement within the firm.

Why Is Employee Engagement Important?

Employee engagement is incredibly important for every business. It helps boost productivity within the firm while also increasing employee satisfaction. If your employees are productive and satisfied on the job, it will be easier for you to retain some of your best people.

If you keep employee engagement at a high level within your organisation, it means that staff members will find their work meaningful. More importantly, they’ll feel valued as employees, which is essential for boosting collaboration and communication.

When different members of your workforce know that they’re all working towards the same goals, they’ll be more open to doing more projects together. Through increased collaboration, the efficiency of the whole company will grow significantly.

How to Prepare for a Flood Emergency: Tips from BCFS Health and Human Services

Our organization, BCFS Health and Human Services, is a national leader in emergency management and medical sheltering. We provide emergency support services to local, state, and federal governments, as well as residential and emergency shelter services. We’ve responded to multiple natural disasters, including floods.

Flooding is especially damaging for families due to the destruction of property and the potential dangers. To help prepare families for a flood emergency, we’ve leveraged our years of experience to create several tips and strategies for managing a flood and keeping your family safe.

A first step we recommend for handling a flood emergency is to examine the risks. Use resources such as the FEMA Flood Map Service Center to estimate your risks and create a plan for monitoring those risks, like checking NOAA radio station broadcasts during heavy rains or using online resources to stay ahead of the latest forecasts and potential problems. For example, if you live near a flood-prone river that frequently crests over its banks, then an impending downpour should give you some warning time to prepare or evacuate the area in advance as a precaution.

While you gather information about flood risks and understand how to stay updated, it’s time to prepare your household. Gather important documents, photos, hard drives, and other items that are essential if you must leave quickly. Place these together in your emergency “go bag” that includes your emergency items. These should include flashlights, blankets, drinkable water, snacks, extra medications, baby formula, cash, external charging batteries, personal hygiene items, and other essentials. You can also set aside flood-specific clothing such as waders and waterproof boots to help you navigate flood waters.

At BCFS Health and Human Services, we advise parents talk to their kids about emergency flood planning, especially the steps they’ll need to take if disaster strikes. Talk to kids at an age-appropriate level, giving greater responsibility to kids as they grow older. For example, a five-year-old can understand some of the aspects of a flood and might be able to carry a jacket, while a 16-year-old can be provided much more context and tasks that can help the entire family. Discuss with kids the procedures they should take during a flood. Empty your emergency bags so they understand how to use the various contents. Provide your kids with their own copy of your emergency contact list of family members or neighbors and enter this information into their cell phones if necessary. Try not to scare kids with these conversations, but make sure they know it’s a serious topic and that you expect them to try their best to listen and learn so you can all work together to overcome a disaster, should it ever strike.

Roger Wolfson – Where Writing Can Take You

We have discussed writing a great dal on this blog in recent years and the reason as to why more of us should commit to working on our general writing abilities. Often we get some questions around the purpose of this, and what exactly one may be able to do as a writer, or if you have high level writing experience. The perfect example of this is a man named Roger Wolfson, who has used his incredible skill as a great American writer to forge a number of career paths for himself.

Let’s take a look at what Roger is able to do with his pen, and which careers that has helped him take on.

Speech Writer

Speech writing is about creating a clear and concise message, it is about delivering that message in a way which is easy to understand, and which evokes emotion. Some of the greatest speech writers in the world have this natural ability to utilize vocabulary and certain phrases, which really help the message hit home. This is not an easy craft, but the very best writers are able to do it with ease.

Scriptwriter

Whilst he may be much more than this, for the largest part of Roger’s career he has worked as a scriptwriter and that is something which very few people have the natural ability to do. If you are a great writer however and you have a grasp of how to report speech and how to use that to induce and provoke the emotions of your characters, then this is a wonderful gig to do. From film to TV, not to mention stageshows, scriptwriting is a rewarding and challenging area of writing to go into.

Author

When people think about an author they instantly consider the great authors of our time, but the reality is that writing a book is not about the fame or adulation, it is about the completion of a project. Roger himself has turned his pen to authorship on numerous occasions and used his abilities as a storyteller to create some great stuff. Even if you are only writing short stories, creating a piece like this is a perfect example of what you can do with your abilities as a writer.

Essayist

Given the blog culture which we have seen arise in recent years, there is once again a focus on those who have the ability to compose great essays. For many years these would be published in certain magazines and reviews, but the reality is that these days they are considered as lengthy online pieces which have something to say. Again Roger has compiled a wide range of essays, covering a wide range of political topics. If you have something to say, then this is the perfect way to deliver that message.

As you can see, as a writer there is an enormous range of areas which you can focus on that will increase our ability and showcase what you can do with a pen.

Diamond Environmental Services – Top Tips For Planning an Outdoor Wedding

My wife and I did very well last January in managing to pull off the wedding of our dreams, right before this pandemic kicked in. Of course we had no idea at the time what would unfold in the months to come, but nonetheless it was a bullet that we were more than happy to have dodged. We had planned the outdoor wedding for long time and I have to be honest that it was touch and go whether or not we were going to be able to come through with all of our plans. In retrospect it went very well and based on that I wanted to share some tips with anyone out there who is planning such a wedding, to help it go off without a problem.

Spare Toilets

It didn’t take long for the toilets in the venue which we were outside of to fill up and that is why I am so thankful that the guys at Diamond Environmental Services were able to step in and help. I was actually a friend of ours who first suggested that we get extra toilets, based on her own experience of her wedding. This is a suggestion that I am more than happy to pass on.

Getting Enough Juice

One issue which we managed to prevent at the 11th hour was not having enough power, and it is easy to underestimate just how much juice you are going to need for something like this. When you break down the number of lights which you are going to need, the DJ booth and every other electrical outlet which is required for this type of event, you quickly recognize just how much you will need, and a generator is going to be absolutely essential here. Even if you are able to hook up to the mains of the venue, this is still a necessary step that I would recommend.

Walkways

Something else we nearly slipped up was walkways, and making sure that they were solid enough for people. The issue on our wedding day was that we had a very light drop of rain, which was enough to make the plastic walkways that we had in place slippy. We were able to use the stone pathways of the venue but had that not been the case then we would have been in trouble. The last thing that you guests want is their high quality shoes to get ruined because you haven’t planned well enough for the weather.

The Venue

If you are going to have a wedding outside a venue then I would suggest trying to get the marquee as close as possible to it, in order to make your lives easier. Again this is why we were thankful to have the extra toilets because there were some who just did not want to make the long walk into the venue and back again. In need of a wedding suit? Plan this earlier on to make sure you get the perfect fit. Look and feel your best on this once in a lifetime experience.

Some helpful tips to make sure that your day is amazing.

Law Offices of Dr Bruce. G Fagel & Associates – Why You Should Sue For Medical Malpractice

If you have been a victim of medical malpractice then it is absolutely essential that you speak out about it and get legal advice to see if you have a case. The Law Offices of Dr Bruce. G Fagel & Associates have revealed some startling figures recently about the low rate of patients who have been victim to malpractice, yet who have not spoken out about it.

There are many risks with regards to this and sadly too many people either never speak out, or they do so but much too late. Speaking out years down the line makes it incredibly hard to prove, it is far more difficult to obtain evidence, far harder to speak to people involved and ultimately the chances of winning such a case are incredibly. At the first sign that you have fallen victim to malpractice, you must speak out and get legal help, and here is why.

Stopping a Repeat Performance

This is the most important reason as to why you should speak out after being a victim of medical malpractice, to prevent this happening again. Most individuals or hospitals which are found guilty of medical malpractice, are often found to have been guilty of more than one incident. In such a situation had the first incident been reported and had action been taken, the following events may not have occurred at all. Negligence and incompetence should be nipped in the bud as soon as possible, which is why bringing a case against a hospital or individual is so important.

Deserved Compensation

Getting money for damages is a perfectly legitimate reason for you to bring about a lawsuit for medical malpractice. For many people they suffer life changing problems, others face great damage with regards to their mental health and their emotional wellbeing and others actually lose money owing to their inability to work and to earn. For all of these reasons it is perfectly acceptable for an individual to claim damages following medical malpractice. Unfortunately there is a stigma attached to this, but the reality is that damages are paid to victims because it is the very least that they are owed following an incident.

Trust

When you go to a doctor or nurse you are doing so in a way that is completely trusting, this is what society is about and the reason why we have such trust in these healthcare providers is that they are trained to do one thing for us, and that is take care of us. When malpractice occurs, it breaks that trust and that is a deeply damaging thing to happen within society. If you bring a case against an individual or an organization because of that trust being broken, then we can slowly begin to rebuild that trust and make other patients feel safe again.

Don’t sit back and say nothing, if you have been a victim then be sure to speak out.

Stephen Stapinski Andover – Why You’ll Love Blogging About Your Favorite Sports

One of the biggest reasons why so many people like to blog is that it gives them free reign to talk about whatever they wish. What we often see with successful blogs is that there is a community which is built off the back of them, and this is particularly true when it comes to sports blogs. Stephen Stapinski Andover runs one of the hottest sports blogs out there and whilst he does discuss sports in general, he often talks about the important of focusing on a particular niche when blogging.

With this in mind, today we are going to take a look at the reasons as to why you are going to love blogging about sports.

Continuing The Passion

If you are a huge baseball fan then it is likely that your days are not only spent watching baseball, but also talking about it at every given opportunity. When you have your own blog you can take this passion to the max, and you can use all of your free time to talk about whatever you want to online. This is really a must-do for any sports fans.

Bring in Talking Points

If you have ever sat at home watching pundits on ESPN then you will no doubt have been screaming and shouting at them as they offer up their opinion. Well now that you have your very own blog you can use this space to put your own personal opinions out there and to have your say on the big talking points. The only reason that so many pundits get to say what they want is because they have a platform. Through your very own blog you too can create a platform to say whatever you like.

Community

The point which we mentioned in the intro is really important, the idea that you can build a community around your passion for sports. Fans of sports, just like bloggers, also want to have their say and you’ll get people who both agree and disagree with you. This community is what blogging is all about because you are literally attracting and connecting people from all over the world, who want to get involved and talk sports with you. This is a rewarding thing to do and it is cool to be part of such a community, especially if you created it.

Influencer

There is no point in doing this for money, it should very much be a passion project. Despite this however there is no getting away from the fact that if you are successful and you do have a large following, you can use that following to become something of an influencer. This means that you may get some offers from sports clubs or from those selling merch, to partner up with them on various projects and incentives. This is a great reward for the hard work which you will have put in on your own blog.

If you love sports, start a blog.

Javier Burillo – Reasons You Will Fall in Love With Mexico City

There is a lot said about Mexico City which is true, but which is not a dominant force when you visit there. For example people talk about the possible muggings, but this is no worse than big cities around the world. People also talk about the poverty, but the reality is that this is not in your face and again, many cities in the world face a similar situation. There are in fact far more reasons to fall in love with this city, than there are reasons not to like it.

I came down here from the US about 4 years ago now, to catch up with my friend and local chef Javier Burillo. In the years that passed I continued to visit here and I am currently looking to buy a second property here. For me there is just so much to love about the city, and here is why I think that you could easily fall in love with the place, just as I have.

The Food Culture

Even before I came here I knew that Mexican food was my favorite, there is just so much to enjoy and to try out. From the meals in the cantinas to the enormous range of street food, one thing you can expect here is not to go hungry. Even after the amount of time which I have spent here, I still find new foods to enjoy. Not only the flavor of the foods, but the culture here is really wonderful, and food means everything.

History

There are some parts of this city which feel modern and fresh, and there are many others where you can quite literally see the history of he city on show. There are ancient mayan and aztec ruins right here in the middle of the city, and the old buildings and churches which you will find are truly incredible. I love the historical nature of this city and I also love the way that it wears it so proudly.

Mind Boggling

At first, being in the city is pretty mind boggling and it can be unsettling if you are not used to big city life. Eventually however you do get used to it and the sights, smells and sounds are truly something to behold. From street performers to fruit trucks passing by, busy markets to people selling their wares on the street, you will find this place to be a real attack on the senses, and that is a good thing.

Kindness

My experience of the locals here has never been anything but that they are incredibly kind. On the road, stuck in traffic, this is not something which you are likely to find, beyond that however, I have always felt welcomed here and I have always felt that people are going to help me out where possible.

The best thing to do is come down and see for yourself just how cool and fun a city this really is.

Faii Ong – Things To Know About Being An Inventor

Becoming an inventor is something which so many young kids dream about. This has become even more popular in recent years, and so many young boys and girls would love to grow up and become Tony Stark, or someone of that ilk. Whilst there are some truly incredible inventors out there, people like Elon Musk, James Dyson and Faii Ong, it is important to remember that the reality of being an inventor is not always as it appears. To those of you who do believe that you have the drive and the creativity, here is what you should know about being an investor.

Failure First

The large majority of people who come up with an idea or a solution are those who have already failed multiple times. This is not just failure with regards to the product and the way in which it operates, but the idea itself. There are so may inventors who come up with multiple ideas before anyone thinks that they have a good idea on their hands. Sadly there are also a large number of inventors who do go through life failing, in terms of the opinions of others, and never have that groundbreaking idea.

Costly

Being someone who intents things is not cheap whatsoever and this is something else which you have to bear in mind. Many inventors are operating in debt, or just surviving, because they believe so heavily in the idea. Now for many of those people they do eventually find some level of success, which enables them to keep going, or they get some investment which supports them. What we do find however is that inventors who are yet to hit high levels of success, often have to find jobs to make money, and that then restricts the way in which they are able to design, because they have less time.

Mistrust

As awful as it sounds, there is a lot of mistrust which inventors must have, because of the fact that idea theft could be valuable to others. Even though there is a lot of protection which copyright can offer, owing to the fact that there are so many copyrights for each part of the design as well as the idea on the whole, it is far more difficult. There are inventors who thought that they had maximum protection only to learn that their idea could easily be taken, sadly they realized too late and someone copied it. This is why they have to be careful who they trust with their ideas.

Thick Skin

Inventors who are yet to invent anything of note are often ridiculed, yet when they have invented something which does solve a problem, they are lauded. This is unfortunately just the way it goes in this industry and that is why inventors must have thick skin.

The rest of the world doesn’t see things in the same way that an inventor does, and this is why it is a much more challenging role than you may realize.

Paolo Boffetta – What Are The Keys To Being a Great Author?

A great number of people have spent their lockdowns writing stories and unlocking their potential when it comes to expressing their creativity through literature. There has also been a number of high caliber authors such as Paolo Boffetta, who have been using their social media to help budding authors to realize their potential with tips and advice. Today we are going to follow on from what many authors have been discussing, and take a look into what exactly it is that makes a great author.

To those of you who wish to pursue this as a career, here is what you should be aiming for.

Great Researcher

It is important to remember here that authors do not simply sit down and have ideas flowing out of their heads, they have to do background work first. The very best authors are those who carry out the best research, because it adds more depth and credibility to their work. If you are writing a story about the legal system or about nurses and doctors, you have to know what you are talking about. Even if you have worked in these fields, there is still work to be done in order to deliver the most accurate information.

Storytelling

Interestingly, whilst many would suggest that you would first have to be a great writer in order to be a great author, it is in fact storytelling which is much more important. Being a good writer is required of course, but even if you are a high quality wordsmith, lacking storytelling ability will ensure that you are never a great author. Conversely, there are those who cannot write perfectly, yet understand the pace and the rhythm which is required in order to be a great storyteller.

Relatable

In order to get the reader to buy-in to the story, it has to be something which they can relate to. This is what readers are looking for in all stories, no matter whether they are about martians or architects. Great authors truly understand their audience and they are able to design their tales in such a way that instantly asks for the buy-in from the reader.

Character Development

And finally, one of the true hallmarks of a great author is one who is able to bring characters to life. Character development is essential to every story, it is what makes the story believable and what drives it forward. Following on from the need to make a story relatable, this is often achieved through the use of characters and the depth with which they have. To use this previous example, a well thought out martian character can be relatable if they have similar personality traits or struggles as the reader. The importance of characters cannot be understated and the best authors are able to create iconic and relatable characters in their stories.

These are the key aspects of what and characteristics which make a great author.

Roger Wolfson – Things You May Not Know About Writing For TV

If you have a natural gift when it comes to writing stories and scenes, then a career in TV scriptwriting may certainly be for you. There are some sensational talents who have made their writing careers off the back of their ability to write a script, people like Roger Wolfson who have showcased their incredible talent to this industry in particular. Those like Roger however have had to depend on far more than just their natural ability to write, in order to find success within this industry.

There is a wealth of skills and characteristics which you’ll need to succeed in this field. There is much that people are unaware of about what TV writers face, and here are some things which you may not know.

Long Hours

The large majority of TV writers have to work incredibly long hours each and every day. TV shows are a constant, and that means that so too is the writing. This is not as simple as having a nice idea and then handing it over, this is very much shift work which has to be treated as such. It is for this reason why so many talk about the level of dedication required for success within this field.

Thankless

Despite the fact that he is one of this generation’s leading writers, there are many people who do not know who Roger Wolfson is. Even those who do know how great Roger is, may not be aware of the fact that he has written on some of the biggest TV shows which have graced the screen. The reason for this is that much of the work which scriptwriters create, are delivered by the actors and actresses on the screen. More often than not it is these actors and actresses who get the credit for the work of the scriptwriter. For this reason, those who do write scripts have to have thick skin, and accept that they will not get the adulation they may feel that they deserve.

Team Working Difficulties

Scriptwriting is something which simply has to be conducted by a team, and that is because you cannot expect individuals to consistently deliver high quality results on a daily basis. Whilst it is a great idea to have teams in place, there are some issues which occur as a result of this. For example ego can play a big part in these discussions, because everyone thinks that their idea or their line is the better one. Those TV shows which have won awards and cemented their place in history, they are the shows which have great teams working in sync with one another, and which leave ego at the door. Sadly however there are man shows which couldn’t reach the levels that they should have, because of these kinds of conflicts.

This can be a very rewarding position and if you thin that you have what it takes then you will fall in love with this career choice. It is important however to recognize that writing ability alone is not enough.
