Factors That Pose A Danger To Your Skin At Home

Your home environment is not always the safe for you or for your health. Some of the things we can into contact with in our daily routines can have very severe effects on our general well-being. It is even worse when it comes to the skin. Being the most exposed part of our bodies, it means that nearly 80% of the things we encounter are bound to come in contact with our skin either directly or indirectly. In the end, you may end up with a skin condition that you can’t explain how you got in the first place. Here are some of the things you should look out for:

Chlorine in Water

The same water that is considered life may be the same water that causes your skin to be damaged. Chlorine is the most popular water-treatment chemical, but when it is used in excess, it reacts negatively to your skin. Swimming pools are particularly dangerous considering they have to be treated regularly especially when they are open to the public. Try as much as possible to use water sources that you trust.

Car Battery

Even though they are safely tucked away inside your car, the few moments you come in contact with them may cause you some harm. Nowadays, car batteries are well covered so there is no danger in simply touching them when they are inactive. However, the moment they are powered up, the electrical reaction causes the production of fumes that are not necessarily healthy. These batteries contain sulfuric acid, and the resulting fumes may leave you itching for days. The batteries also contain lead which is another skin-health enemy. The two combined can cause a disaster.

Cleaning Detergents

It is hard to decipher which cleaning agent is worse than the other. Whether you are washing utensils, cleaning your oven or doing laundry, the best thing to do is wear protective gloves or cover most of your skin. The chemicals used to make these detergents are not friendly to the skin and the resulting irritation might be nasty. Whatever you do, try as much as possible not to ingest any of these detergents either accidentally or intentionally because the consequences will be worse than any skin rash. In case you are not sure about the safety of a product, head over to a reliable resource such as healthyskinsolutions.com to help you find out how you can protect your skin. Be wary of any form of chemical that is found anywhere in your home. Read all the instructions carefully since most of them are pretty clear on the negative effects of not handling certain products properly. Having a pair of gloves with you all the time is advisable.

Hot Showers

The fact that a hot shower can have negative impacts on our skin may not be what we want to hear. However, a hot shower for over 30 minutes can be known to impact negatively and can increase your water bill. The use of hot showers in itself is not bad but excessive use will cause your skin to be wrinkly and will strip away the outer layers, leading to dry and sometimes scaly results. The sensation of a hot shower may be nice, but the outcome is not worth it. Moderation is key.
