Each year fraudsters who replicate pieces of ancient art and antiques from civilizations gone by make millions of dollars for their work and sadly there are many who get caught out and end up buying something which they believe to be real, in many cases not even realizing that it is a fake until too late. So how can you possibly avoid something like this happening if you find a coin that you think is the real deal? To help us with some tips on what you can be doing to minimize your chances of getting caught out, I caught up with my friend Sally from the Sadigh Gallery in New York, and here is what she had to say.

No Guarantees

The first point to make here is that there are never any guarantees that you can completely avoid a fake so don’t get overly paranoid about it, there are some guidelines to follow but that is about as much due diligence as you can make, unless you wish to invest thousands to have every piece which you look at valued and checked by an expert.

All Details

When it comes to coins you have to first start off with as much literature as you can get your hands on which will describe every single detail of the coin which you should expect to find. This will include the material that the coin should be, the weight, the color, the markings if any that the piece has and of course any inscriptions or embossing which may be found on the coin.

Wear

One area which fraudsters do find difficult to mimic is the wear that a coin may have had. LEt’s say that a coin is from the 15th century, during the last 500 years the metal would’ve worn and corroded in a certain way, the use of the coin would have seen details rubbed off and some discoloration would have taken place in certain areas. This is where you can often spot fakes because trying to copy something new is one thing but trying to copy something and create 500 years of wear is not going to be easy. Make sure that you know how the particular material should wear over time and what to expect from a piece which is as old as it is.

Gut Instinct

It may not be particularly scientific but there is a lot to say about trusting your gut instinct when it comes to more expensive purchases. Now if the piece you are looking at is $40 for example then it may very well be worth a punt, if on the other hand you are looking at spending some serious money on the piece there is just no point at all in buying something if you have any doubts about it. Assuming you’ve done your homework, the last test is to trust your own instincts about whether or not the piece is real.

Things like fall tree boughs, pinecones, berries, and more can all be easily incorporated into your Christmas decor. So before you head off to the store to get some decoration, take a look around the outside of your home to see if you can use anything natural first. You might be surprised at how creative you can get with just a few clippings.

Know Where To Shop

For the times that you are going to buy something that you’ll add or use for your holiday decor, it’s important that you know the best places to shop in order to get the most for your money.

Isadora Baum, a contributor to the Rachel Ray Show, shares that the best place to get Christmas decorations at reduced prices is a thrift store. If you’re able to get to a thrift store at the right time and when they have a good selection of holiday items available, you can save anywhere from 50 to 90 percent on typical holiday decorations that you’d buy at a traditional retail shop.

Buy At The Right Times

In addition to buying your decor at the right place in order to save money, you should also know the best times to make your shopping trips for all types of Christmas supplies.

According to Sarah Stebbins, a contributor to Real Simple, most larger stores follow a certain pattern for sales and discounts leading up to the day of Christmas. Generally, you can find discounts on outdoor holiday decorations toward the beginning of November. As you get a little further into November, you’ll then find indoor decor and more Christmas-specific decorations on sale.

Smartphone-Based Laptops

The latest mobile chipsets are powerful enough to power a Windows operating system seamlessly. Tech companies are utilizing this enormous potential in mobile processor technology to power a new class of notebooks. If you look at the specifications of the latest models of laptops by Asus, Lenovo, and Hp, you would see that a Qualcomm chip is powering them. These are the same class of chips that power the latest smartphones. So, technically, there is no need for a person to have two devices performing similar operations.

The powerful processor of your phone can be utilized to power other devices and gadgets without the need for separate processors for everything. Microsoft has launched its “Always Connected PC,” which uses a mobile ARM chipset for its processor. ASUS came up with an innovative idea to compete in the market by introducing the PadFone. The phone is designed to power a tablet, and it can be put inside the casing of a tablet hull, seamlessly transforming itself into a tablet. The Sentio Superbook is another device currently in the market that allows for a connection with a smartphone. It then uses the processor of the smartphone as its CPU. It is so convenient to drop your phone into a tablet when you are feeling like watching a movie on a bigger screen or just working on an assignment.

What’s the Difference?

The only difference between a smartphone and a laptop is the screen size and the qwerty keyboard. A lot of companies have put docks in the market capable of harnessing the power inside a smartphone. A mobile phone dock is a laptop shaped hull having only a bigger screen and a full laptop-style keyboard. For example, Huawei has a product in the market that uses a USB-C type cable to connect to a laptop, and it uses its screen as a monitor. Mobile phones are slowly replacing laptops in the tech market, and tech manufacturers are beginning to adapt to this changing market trend.

The recently published IRS 2019 Fiscal Year Annual Report includes program performance for the Internal Revenue Service’s Private Debt Collection Program. The experts at Optima Tax Relief reviews the findings and share what it means for American taxpayers.

What is the Private Debt Collection Program?

Since 2017, the IRS has been contracting a small number of private collection agencies to manage the tax debt for some select business tax accounts as a result of a requirement issued by Congress. Through the IRS Private Debt Collection Program, the IRS works with these private collection agencies to work with taxpayers who have overdue tax bills. These agencies help taxpayers settle their tax debts.

Last year, the program was enhanced to include a new payment method that provided taxpayers an additional and convenient option to preauthorize direct debits (for either a single payment or a series of scheduled payments) against their federal tax debt. Additionally, this new payment method was designed to mitigate potential fraud (which increased by sixty percent in 2018 alone).

In June 2019, the IRS began assigning inactive business accounts to the private collection agencies through the Private Debt Collection Program, expanding the number of taxpayers being serviced by the program.

Currently, the four PCAs that have been contracted by the IRS include CBE, Performant, Pioneer and ConServe. These agencies have been fully vetted and contracted by the U.S. Department of Treasury.

Private Debt Collection Program Performance

Over the course of the fiscal year 2019, the IRS is reporting an increase in collection activity generated through the Private Debt Collection Program, and the program has achieved the following milestones:

• Since program inception, the contracted private collection agencies (also known as PCAs) have serviced 200,000 taxpayers by either establishing a new payment arrangement or facilitating payment in full on their outstanding debt.
• More than 2.4 million cases have been assigned to one of the four private collection agencies by the IRS – representing more than $22.5 billion in outstanding payment balances.
• The Private Debt Collection program generated $301.7 million in revenue.

The revenue generated through the Private Debt Collection Program continues to exceed the program’s operational costs, and a percentage of this revenue has been invested to hire an additional one hundred Special Compliance Personnel employees to support the IRS’s Automated Collection System.
